In The Pink

Southern Star and Buildings, Harbour Town, Melbourne Docklands Nov 2008. Ajr
I was rather taken with this pink corrugated iron building down in the new Harbour Town development in Melbourne Docklands. Harbour Town is basically a whole new town, which opened in October. Parts are still under construction. And dominating it all is the Southern Star, an ediface I have yet to make my mind up about. From some angles this huge fixture - the only observation wheel in the Southern Hemisphere - is quite spectacular (more photos later), from others it seems gimmicky and quite unnecessary. Soaring to 120 metres, its 21 air conditioned capsules carry twenty people each on a supposedly unique 30-minute 'flight experience.' www.harbourtownmelbourne.com.au www.thesouthernstar.com.au
